The Postgraduate Program in Chemistry was re-established by decision no. 670/11793 (Government Gazette 1620/B’/10.5.2018) and has been in force as approved by the Senate of the University of Patras (Meeting no. 133/30.3.2018) and the School of Natural Sciences (Meeting no. 8/27.2.2018).
The Senate of the University of Patras, in its meeting no. 203/19.5.2022, approved the amendment of aspects of the re-establishment decision and the corresponding regulation, which has been in effect since the academic year 2022–2023 (Government Gazette 2801/B’/6.6.2022, no. 38480).
Recently, the regulation was updated to comply with Law 4957/2022, including a restructuring of the curriculum of one of its specializations, effective from the academic year 2023–2024 (Government Gazette 5825/B’/5.10.2023).

Subject – Context
The Postgraduate Program in Chemistry (MSc in Chemistry) aims to provide high-level postgraduate education in various subfields of Chemistry.
This program is the evolutionary continuation of the long-standing postgraduate studies offered by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Patras since the academic year 1994–1995. It has consistently followed the guidelines of departmental evaluations and certifications, and it aligns with the ongoing updates to the legal framework governing postgraduate education in Greece.
In its current form, the program focuses on advanced and specialized topics in Chemistry, with emphasis on:
- Chemistry and Technology of Materials with Applications to Industry, Energy and Environment, and
- Analytical Chemistry and Nanotechnology.

Eligible Applicants
The MSc in Chemistry is open to graduates of Higher Education Institutions in Greece or equivalent institutions abroad, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation. Applicants must have graduated from departments related to the educational and research focus of the MSc in Chemistry, such as departments from Schools of Natural Sciences, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Polytechnic Schools, and Environmental Studies.

a. Academic/research careers, beginning with PhD studies.

Potential employment sectors include, for instance: private companies, food industries, chemical industries, chemical analysis laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, refineries, plastic industries, paint industries, packaging materials industries, biofuel production industries, recycling companies, and development companies focused on new synthesis and analysis methods.

This degree is granted by the Department of Chemistry, School of Natural Sciences, University of Patras.
Duration of Studies
The duration of the MSc program is three (3) semesters.
Curriculum
The total number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits required to obtain the Master’s Degree (MSc) is ninety (90). The courses of the MSc are semester-based. Instruction will be conducted in Greek and/or English. To receive the Master’s Degree (MSc), students are required to successfully attend and be examined in four courses (compulsory or elective) during the first two semesters (Semester I and Semester II) and successfully complete a Master’s Thesis during the second and third semesters.
